This week on Food and the City we are celebrating rock music!
I am a black woman who enjoys music from every genre. I have become comfortable with my wide array of musical interests that span from 2Pac, to Guns N Roses, to Rihanna, to Taylor Swift. Growing up it was weird for me , because leave it to society all I was supposed to like was the lyrical stylings Queen Latifah and her counterparts in order to keep my “blackness” in tact. The ridicule that I got for liking rock and techno, and country, was nothing but ignorance in some of the purest forms.
No matter what, refuge was always in that universal language we call music. I am always swept away and overcome by the power of a dope beat or poetic lyric.
Guns N Roses personified rock with big ass hair, and tighter leather pants. Slash, the lead guitarist is the greatest of my time.
