When Hip Hop Lived: Dedicated to the Pure Hip Hop Sound of the early 90′s

WHEN HIP HOP LIVED: THE BEST OF THE FUGEES

With Each Generation Births A New Style Of Music.

The 1920′s brought with it the roar of a big band that kept the beat of a booming and prosperous young society.

Music of the  1950′s crooned lovers with it’s smooth doo-wop melondies, and in the 1960′s urged a violent world to change toward peace and equality. Music of the 1970′sbrought us a new disco beat that kept party goers on their feet.

The 1980′s was calm and collected with it’s R&B grooves that many of ya’ll was made to.

Oh, but then came the 1990′s where Hip -Hop lived. It was hard to identify at times, and the old folks disregarded it as “noise” because it was so complexed. It had the ability to express the frustration of a disenfranchised urban youth telling them to “Fight the Power”. It was effective in communicating to a young lady to value her worth, and always remember “Ladies First”. It took me to “Tennessee”, with no plane ticket, where I met a man named “Mr. Wendell”. Awe man Hip Hop was adventurous, conscious, and “Bad”.

Hip Hop was also a concrete Mack, wooing hearts in the simplest of terms expressing an age old notion of  ”I Need Love” in a fresh new way. It weeded through the complicated dynamic of a child coming into their own when “Parent’s Just Don’t Understand”.At the time whether you were  ”Ready or Not” Hip-Hop was here and made to inspire, and express the many messages of a new complexed, and concious generation.

With all great things I must tell of its demise, in about 1996 Hip Hop began to dress in disguise. It told youth that violence, emotionless sex, and disregard for humanity was the way to survive. I knew at the time what the world did not want to say, that Hip Hop had faded and gone away, its virtures an core lessons had been taken advantage of, erased, and what we were listening to in 1999, was it Hip Hop? No, that was not the case.

Every now and again, Hip Hop peeps it’s head in through the current generation via an artist who has reached back and appreciated the fact that Hip Hop should be brought back.

I am not Legend, I am just a mere Hip Hop Head, a survivor of a generation here to tell YOU of the days when Hip Hop Lived.
